Before we know it, spring will be in full bloom. Vibrant green covers the ground, flowers emit the sweetest scents, and everything that surrounds us seems to change from cool wintery to warm sunny. Don’t leave your look behind; your makeup should change with the seasons too! We’ve got tips from makeup expert Katy Strickert of Waterstone Aesthetics Salon on the hottest makeup trends for spring.

1. Bold, vibrant cheeks

Flushed cheekbones are back, and we’re in love! Cotton candy pinks, cool fuchsias, and corals are the colors du jour. For a baby doll effect, apply a fun pink to the apples of the cheeks, like Too Faced Brightening Blush in Pinch My Petals, $20. If you are a coral kind of gal, Katy suggests using Lorac blush in Peach, also $20. Apply the color from your temples to your cheekbones in an arching rainbow. If using a vibrant blush takes you out of your color comfort zone, add a makeup primer to soften the intensity.

2. Oh-so-electric eyes

This season, the more disco-inspired neon your shadow, the better! Awaken your eyes with vibrant oranges, pinks, blues, greens, yellows, and violets! Look like a floral goddess by sweeping these fun shades from your lash line to crease. MAC’s eye shadow in Chrome Yellow, $14.50, will give your eyes extra sunshine. Katy says, “Turquoise will be another big trend this season.” Her go-to turquoise is Urban Decay’s Deluxe Eye Shadow in Peace, $18. Is coating your lids with color too much? Give your eyes a less intense accent with vibrant eyeliner. Sweep a shade like NARS Parrot Green or Palladium, $24, across your upper lash line and play with the level of thickness.

3. Vintage, highly pigmented lips

Lips are sugary, sassy, and citrus this spring. Matte bubble gum pinks, vivid oranges and corals, sultry reds, and deep plums are all hot tickets. Bathe your pout with Chanel’s Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color in Coquette, $32. Orange is the “it” lip shade this season, so give those puckers some extra punch with Esteé Lauder’s Pure Color Gloss in Orange Crush, $20, or try Katy’s favorite coral, Makeup Forever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #39, $19. Pair these luscious lips with an equally dynamic eye shadow, or leave eyes neutral to put more emphasis on your smoochers.

4. Always classic: bronzed neutrals

Neutrals never seem to go out of warm weather style. Give your cheekbones that subtle sun-kissed radiance with a highlighter like Josie Maran’s Argan Illuminizer, $28. Tan your skin without the risk of sun damage using a powdered bronzer, accentuating your forehead, nose, chin, and cheekbones. Katy says, “Shimmery bronzers with a hint of metallic gold, light dewy foundation, and mineral-light loose powders will all be hot trends this spring.” Golds are another wow-worthy trend, so Katy recommends trying a bold look by pairing “a gold metallic eyeliner and shadow with an orange-based red lipstick.” Dust shimmery gold eye shadow over your lids, coat lashes with your favorite voluminous mascara, add a touch of color to your lips and cheeks, and voila! You’re a true beach babe!

Seductive and smoky

5. For evenings out, dramatize your eyes with smoky metallic grays and navy blues. Try applying MAC’s Jeanius eye shadow from your lash line to crease in Motorhead or Stovepipe, $19.50. Pair with a neutral lip gloss to let your eyes do the shining.

6. Thick, bright brows

Brows are brighter and more emphasized this spring. Katy says “Brows are fuller, naturally-shaped, and not over-groomed.” Touch up your brows with Benefit’s Brows a Go Go kit, $38. Intensifying your brows emphasizes your eyes.

7. Violets galore

If you are into pastel purples, this is your season! As Katy says, “Purples are in!” Violet eyes, lips, and cheeks will be super chic this spring. Make violet one of your go-to colors with the Smashbox Violet Vixen kit, $42.
