If there’s one thing we can’t live without, it’s mascara and eyeliner. Both are staples in our makeup routine. However, a common complaint for women of all ages is that their their eyeliner and mascara gets smudged throughout the day. So how do you prevent your mascara and eyeliner from smudging? We tapped jane iredale global educator, Kevin Mendelson, for advice for smudge-proof eyeliner.

Smudge Free Mascara

Mendelson tells us why our eye makeup smudges and how to get smudge-proof eyeliner:
“There are so many different factors, such as eye cream used, humidity, individual tearing and oils that can cause this problem. I don’t find there is any one way to prevent mascara or liner from running altogether on someone who is prone to it, but I can offer two solutions.”

Solution 1
First, for daywear, skip mascara and liner on the lower lash line altogether for those women who find smudging a problem. Evening wear eyeliner and mascara are usually shorter in time frame and have less chance of breaking down. It’s the daywear that usually creates the problem because it’s on longer.

Solution 2
Use a coordinating shadow powder over the pencil liner, cream liner or instead of anything with wax. jane iredale’s Bitty Brow Kits are more matte but so are the Dark Suede and Double Espresso eye shadows. Use the jane iredale Smudge Brush to apply shadow either dry or wet for a more intense line that’s oil free.
