Smocked Tube Dress

Whether you’re going to a pool party, a garden party, a cocktail party, or a hot night club, celebrate the summer with the hottest Mexican-inspired fashion trends. Look amazing in bold fabrics, super cute tote bags, and summery hats. Here are some fun fashion trends to keep you in style this summer.

Bold Fabrics
Choose bright colors in fabrics like cotton jersey that won’t wrinkle while you’re outdoors or while socializing. You’re sure to get carried away by the fun and you won’t want to worry about your outfit holding up, says award-wining fashion designer, Abi Ferrin. If you’re not so bold, choose a solid color with a bold trim like this Free People’s FP-1 Wavebreak Smocked Tube Dress ($98).

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes
Channel your inner Frida Kahlo with fun espadrilles and colorful jewelry that will have you dreaming of Oaxaca in seconds.  Take your love for all things Mexican and show your pride with the colors of the Mexican flag. Payless has some great latin-inspired shoe options like their Sweetie Wedge ($13) and their Airwalk multi stripe dream flats.

Layered Looks
Layering is always good for day to night summer festivities. Ferrin likes to mix a tank with leggings under a mini skirt or a sheer long skirt and add a fun cover-up.  Think ahead about what you may need to add to the outfit or take away over the course of the day; who wants to go home and kill the mood mid-party for an outfit change; don’t be that girl.

Mexican-Print Inspired Totes
Another fun accessory to complete your Mexican inspired summer look is a fun, festive tote. Carry your essentials in a bag with a cool Mexican print. We love this one by Urban Outfitters’ Ecote Blanket Tote ($29). It’s light, goes great with summer outfits and is a great bag to carry you through the season.

Closet Cleaning, Image Courtesy of containerstore.com

This spring I decided to try something different with my spring cleaning, I tried on every outfit in my closet and if it didn’t fit or feel awesome, out of the closet it went. Now, I couldn’t quite bear to part with three gigantic storage tubs of clothing, so I put it in the basement with the promise that if I lost weight by the end of the summer I could revisit my clothing. Added incentive to my new diet!

But I found some added benefits from my closet spring cleaning that were unexpected. Suddenly I had more room in my closet and my clothes weren’t as crowded, meaning they weren’t wrinkled when I pulled them out to wear.

I also became much more aware of the clothing I have and selecting an outfit for the day was not only easier but sort of exciting.

Removing clothes also gave me a chance to really see what I was holding on to and what I needed to improve upon. I realized that my bargain basement clothing purchased just because it was cheap wasn’t doing me any favors and just a few new pieces really added something interesting to my look and by buying better pieces that fit me well I felt much better about myself and the extra weight I’ve put on.

This spring, clean your closet and discover how much lighter and happier you feel about your wardrobe.

Rihanna at Battleship Red Carpet, Image Courtesy of justjared.com

Look out Hollywood, Rihanna may have just proven that she’s the dreaded triple threat. We all know she can sing and dance and now she’s hit the red carpet as an actress after Battleship hit the silver screen.

Whether the movie proves to be a success or not is still to be seen, but she looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet on May 10th as she stepped out in a beautiful white dress and gorgeous long dark locks.

Rihanna plays an American petty officer on the USS John Paul Jones and the movie itself is based on the board game. While we don’t often think of military gear as sexy, somehow on Rihanna it is, which may mean that the military look is not only going to stick around, but may get even more popular if this film proves to be a blockbuster.

Although, the military garb may have something to do with her ultra feminine white dress choice for the red carpet. Note, the very deep slit that earned Angelina Jolie a lot of jabs after the Oscars is proving to be a huge fashion statement, as predicted. Thankfully, the other women sporting this look have learned how to stand and expose just the right amount of leg.

For those that heard Rihanna was having health problems, she states that she was simply pushing herself too hard while trying to recover from the flu and was simply dehydrated. She’s feeling great now.
