When it comes to eye makeup, I take it pretty seriously. My caboodle (yes, I still have one!) is chock-full of eye shadows in every shade imaginable. I tried the Jane Iredale Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner/Highlighter because it seemed like such a quick and easy, two-in-one product for my eyes. Unfortunately, it was not what I was hoping for.

It seems like a solid idea: a two-in-one powdered eyeliner and highlighter stick. At each end is a screw-off lid with eyeliner in one and a highlighting powder in the other. Each end is sort of spring-loaded, and you can "dip" each end into the lid to get the powder on the applicator. I had no trouble getting the eyeliner on the applicator. However, the highlighting powder was a little bit harder to get on; I felt like I was dipping the applicator in that lid harder and more often to try and get as much on it as I could.
Now comes the tricky part: application. Like I said before, the idea is cool, but I just don't think the end product was executed very well. When applying as a liner, it went on okay. But if you were wanting to get a really precise cat eye look, forget it. The actual shape of the applicator is not the best; you are limited to creating a line that is only achievable with the blunt end offered by this product. That was one of the things that I disliked the most about the Jane Iredale Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner/Highlighter.
The other thing that I didn't really care for was the actual consistency of the product. It's powdered, yes, but it actually feels kind of cream-like. And the eyeliner portion is very rich, so if you were wanting to apply it to the whole lid (you can use it as an eyeshadow as well), you would definitely need to dilute the saturation or risk looking like a raccoon. The highlighting portion is not ideal. Like I said, just getting the powder on the applicator was kind of hard, but when I was applying it, it barely even showed up. And it felt creamy (kind of greasy), which is not what I want my makeup to feel like on my eye. I ended up just using my usual highlighting eye shadow instead. I will say this though, when I applied the liner over my usual eyeshadow, it stayed on ALL DAY. So that was nice.
I really wanted the Jane Iredale Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner/Highlighter to be something better than it was. The shape of the applicator and the texture of the product were just not to my liking. It seems easy enough, but when you get down to it, it just doesn't work.
